Wrist Hold

In an attack, wrist grabs can and do get used. Wrists grabs can be used to force one somewhere else for example an alley so the attack is occurred out of view or hold you steady so the attacker can punch and /or mug you.

When in a wrist hold remember to:
1. Act quickly i.e when the wrist grab is occurring
2. Remain calm
3. Act decisively and confidently

1. Opponent grabs wrist
2. Take the hand (one that is held by the attacker) and bring it up in front of your face (like you are holding a compact mirror)
3. Rotate the wrist clockwise, so thumb is pointing towards your face
4. Thrust hand down

Held with one wrist (Opposite side wrist grab)

 2. Form hand into a fist
 3. Rotate your arm the opposite way their thumb is pointing (gap between thumb and  pinky)
 4.  Pull hand with force, which should loosen the attackers grip

Held with two wrists

Physical Self Defence – How to effectively strike

In this post, we will look at how to strike an opponent. Performing these techniques correctly will give you the best chance to stop an attack. Remember; only engage in a physical confrontation if you have to. The first option should always be to run and attract attention.
Punching
When punching, make sure your fist is closed, with the thumb outside of your fist. If the thumb is inside the fist, it will be broken upon punching.

3 punching techniques that will be effective in stopping an attacker:

·         Jab - is a distancing punch, used to keep at attacker at a distance away from your body. Short and sharp, straight at the windpipe, will cause brutal damage

·         Straight Punch – the arm will be fully extended. If the attacker is in your personal space, you can access their jaw, eyes, nose, neck etc.

·         Hammer Punch – the fist will come from top down, to strike an attackers jaw. The fist closed and the strike is made the right side of the fist

Kicking/Kneeing
When kneeing or kicking an opponent, you can aim for their groin. This will cause severe pain and is likely to make any male fall to their knees.  When kneeing and kicking, be sure to follow through with your leg, until well past the point of impact. This will deliver the maximum output of force. In order to create more force, lean into the opponent when kicking and kneeing, by swaying your pelvis and hips toward the point of impact.

-Striking, grabbing, or pinching the throat is also effective.

1. Point of the nose – pressure (push or striking with the palm of the hand)
2. Point of the chin (not much pain, but can be effective at causing discomfort)
3. Ears (striking to both ears – immense pressure are applied to the ear drum)
4. Ribs
jabbing with thumb knuckles or some hard, pointed object
